UFC Poker Room Summary

As huge UFC fans and poker players, we were really excited when the UFC Poker room was announced. What’s better than combining our favorite sport with our favorite game? The UFC Poker room opened it’s doors in November 2009, but left us a bit disappointed. Here’s the rundown.

The poker room only offers tournaments right now, and only for play money. No ring game tables, and no real money play. Not only that, but the quality of the software is running about 8 years behind the ‘real’ poker industry. If you’re looking for a real poker room, try Bodog Poker instead. Bodog Poker is possibly the best online poker room in the world, and offers real money poker to US players and is also one of the biggest overlay poker sites. Players can also bet on UFC fights using the same account.

We aren’t trying to pick on the UFC Poker room. After all, their poker room seems to be designed for the purpose of giving UFC fans something fun to do that keeps the UFC in their minds – we get that. With that said, the UFC has a huge following and a great marketing platform on which to build a real poker site. So, while they don’t appear to be going after the legitimate online poker industry, we hope they do at some point in the future.

We’d love to give the UFC Poker site a great review, and if things improve, we’ll be the first to tell you about those improvements. Since this is a poker site review, we have to be honest and compare it to other poker rooms.

The UFC Poker room offers free tournaments with small prizes including cash and various UFC & Tapout swag. The best prizes compare to those of small freeroll tournaments on regular poker sites. While it’s nothing to get excited about, if you’re totally broke and have to have some UFC gear, you can do that here. With such a small pool of players right now, the odds to win a prize are better than most real poker sites.

As mentioned above, there are no ring games available at UFC Poker. If you want to practice or learn the game, once again, try Bodog Poker instead.

The software at UFCPoker is archaic in terms of online poker. In comparison to real poker sites, the buttons are difficult to use, the options are lacking, and the graphics are mediocre. Without knowing the exact intention of the site, it’s hard to know how to review this site.

If it’s solely for the purpose of giving UFC fans a place to fiddle around a bit, then it serves it’s purpose. If the intention is to create the first version of what will eventually become a real poker room, them they’ve accomplished that goal as well. However, if the intention is to draw real poker fans to the site, they have failed miserably. In the world of online poker, the software at UFC Poker would be ranked last.
